Padhne Ki Ghanti
For lakhs of students in public schools, exposure to literature is limited to poor-quality textbooks devoid of context. In this scenario, expecting a child to be an active reader and creative is far-fetched, especially for those from underserved communities who are first-generation schoolgoers. It does not help them to be expressive and exposed to diverse ideas. Introducing libraries in the early grades can not only fill this gap but can also become the centre of an independent learning environment.
In this library program, we develop a vibrant children's library at the partner government primary school to support children's foundational literacy. We work in our partner schools through
- Distribution of books for the library- Each partner school is provided with curated, high-quality children's literature to develop an engaging children's library.
- Engaging children with quality literature- Weekly students are given opportunities for independent reading, storytelling sessions, read-aloud sessions and library activities are facilitated.
- Capacity building of teachers- We conduct monthly discussions with teachers on language-related topics such as language teaching, library activities, the concept of language education, etc.
- Facilitating DIET level workshop for teachers- Workshop with teachers on language teaching and how to establish a vibrant school library through periodic District Institute of Education and Training [DIET] training.
