Padhne Ki Ghanti

Kiran conducting Read Aloud

Padhne Ki Ghanti

For lakhs of students in public schools, the exposure to literature is limited only to textbooks that are not of excellent quality and are devoid of context. In this scenario expecting a child to be an active reader and creative is farfetched esp. for those coming from underserved communities who are first-generation schoolgoers. It does not help them to be expressive and exposed to diverse ideas. Introducing libraries in the early grades can not only fill this gap but can also become the centre of an independent learning environment.

In this library program, we develop a vibrant children's library in the partner government primary school to support the foundational literacy of children. We work in our partner schools through

  • Distribution of books for the library- Each partner school is provided with curated quality children's literature for developing an interesting children's library.
  • Engaging children with quality literature – Weekly students are given opportunities for independent reading, storytelling sessions, reading aloud sessions and library activities are facilitated.
  • Capacity building of teachers- We conduct monthly discussions with teachers on language-related topics like language teaching, library activities, the concept of language education etc.
